Woodbury Apartment Remodel

Our client purchased an antique building in Woodbury, Connecticut. The second floor was unfinished, presenting an ideal space to convert into an apartment.

We designed a floor plan for a two-bedroom apartment with a larger shared bathroom, including laundry hookups. The wall design needed to align with the existing structural members, and plumbing was restricted to one location to minimize disruption to the store below. A key part of the design was to maintain the antique feel by leaving the original beams exposed and matching the LVP flooring.

We began by reframing and reinforcing the floor joists and installing a new subfloor. Older buildings are challenging to air seal with traditional batt insulation, so we used spray foam for the walls and ceiling. Additionally, with antique buildings, extra framing is often required to pad out walls and ceilings to ensure the drywall is as straight as possible.

This project took 5 months to complete, with 2 months dedicated to preplanning and design.
